Lady Bears suffer loss on the road

MARIETTA, Ga. (February 28, 2024) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team traveled to compete in a non-conference match-up against Life University, where the Lady Bears fell to the sharp shooting Running Eagles, 22-5. TMU falls to an overall record of 1-4, while Life rises to a record of 5-0.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first period, TMU was first to score with a goal by Marlo McBrayer, assisted by Kaitlyn Morgenroth (1-0). The Running Eagles quickly responded with nine goals of their own, creating an early lead over the Lady Bears at the end of the first, 1-9. The second quarter once again saw the Lady Bears up first with an unassisted goal by Shelby Nail (2-9). The Running Eagles continued to increase the margin by two more goals when a goal by Katie Smith gave TMU its third goal of the evening (3-11). The remainder of the second quarter saw LU add four more goals to their score, leaving TMU behind at the half, 3-15.
 
The Lady Bears remained goalless in the third quarter, allowing the Running Eagles to add four goals, when a final effort by Morgenroth in the last minute of regulation added one more to TMU's score (4-19). In the final quarter, a last chance effort by Katie Smith saw TMU score its final goal of the day as the Lady Bears attempted to recover from LUs strong offense, but was ultimately not enough to change the outcome of the game, falling to a final score of 5-22.
 
LEADERS
Smith led the way for the Lady Bears with two goals and three shots, while Nail had one goal, three shots and one assist. McBrayer and Morgenroth followed, contributing one goal apiece, while Morgenroth tallied one assist. Goalie Sally Marcum was featured recording 16 saves on the evening, respectfully. 
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6 as they host Montreat College for their Appalachian Athletic Conference opener. Game time set for 5:00 p.m.
