COLUMBUS, Ga. (February 16, 2024) - The RV Truett McConnell University softball team hit the road to compete in the first day of the NFCA Classic on Friday, where the Lady Bears recorded a 6-3 win against Louisiana Christian University and 3-5 loss against No. 12 University of Mobile.
GAME ONE | 6-3 WIN
The Lady Bears hit the board in the bottom of the first inning after a misplayed by Louisiana Christian offered Jenna O'Brien the opportunity needed to make it home (1-0). TMU struck again in the bottom of the third inning when a shot to left field by Cassie Boatright scored Rebekah Graham, followed by a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning by Kyndall Gipson that scored O'Brien (3-0). The sixth inning proved game changing for the Wildcats as they scored three runs of their own (3-3). The Lady Bears did no back down as they stole back the advantage and sealed the deal with an RBI from Isabelle Sullivan to score Grace Folds, an Emme Souter double to left field to score Rachel Morgan and an O'Brien RBI single to score Souter, resulting in a final score of 6-3.
LEADERS
O'Brien led the way going 2 for 3 with two runs, one RBI and one walk, followed by Folds who went 2 for 3 with one run. Graham went 1 for 2 with on run, while Gipson and Boatright individually went 1 for 3 with one RBI. Gipson was also featured pitching seven complete innings, along with recording seven strikeouts on the day.
GAME TWO | 3-5 LOSS
Game two was sparked at the start by a Boatright single homer over the center field fence, followed by more Boatright action in the third inning featuring an RBI single to score O'Brien (2-0). The Rams responded with a home run of their own in the top of the fifth inning, while capitalizing with four more runs to steal the lead (2-5). TMU had to work hard under pressure, ultimately seeing an RBI single from Sullivan as the final move to change the pace of the game (3-5).
LEADERS
Boatright went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and one run, while O'Brien and Sullivan went 1 for 3, and pitcher Kyleigh Sanders recorded two strikeouts on the day.

The Lady Bears will compete in day two of the NFCA Classic on Saturday, beginning with a match-up against Webber International University at 11:00 a.m. and finishing the day against No. 23 William Carey University at 1:00 p.m.
