Baseball splits twin bill with Reinhardt

CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 16, 2024) - On Friday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team hosted Reinhardt University in their first Appalachian Athletic match-up of the season, where the Bears recorded a split in the series doubleheader with a winning score of 11-7 and fell to a score of 0-5.

GAME ONE | 11-7 WIN

Ethan Roberts sparked the second inning with an RBI single to score Mathew Redmond and give the Bears the lead. Tanner Griffith followed the action with a two run RBI single to send Roberts to the plate, followed by a Brodie Genter RBI single to score Caleb Adair (4-0). Reinhardt tallied runs of their own in the third and fourth inning (4-3), but the Bears brought the heat in the fourth inning with six runs, featuring an Adair RBI double, individually a Mikal Mascarello, Caleb Ramsey, Dylan Sargent and Jake edwards RBI single to make the score 10-3. Reinhardt went on to score four more runs but it wasn't enough as the game was ultimately put out of reach with a final score of 11-7.

LEADERS

Griffith led the way going 2 for 4 at the plate with two RBIS and one run, while Mascarello went 2 for 5 at the plate with one run and on RBI. Edwards and Roberts had two hits apiece, along with Roberts recording two RBIs and one walk. Pitcher Griffin Kanelos pitched through 3.2 innings, while recording four strikeouts on the day.

GAME TWO | 0-5 LOSS
The Eagles had a complete change in pace in game two, hitting the board in the first inning with runners on and an execution in place (0-1). Griffith worked to get the bats rolling for the Bears with a leadoff single, followed by a Mascarello walk and Ramsey single. TMU did not back down as they continued to try and chip away at the Eagles lead, but two more runs added in the third and sixth inning, followed by a game changing seventh inning showed no hope as the home team fell 0-5.

LEADERS

Griffith led the way once again going 2 for 4, followed by Ramsey and Sargent who individually went 1 for 3 at the plate.
