TMU proves victorious after dominating first half

CLEVELAND, Ga. (November 26, 2024) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Bluefield University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Lady Bears recorded a dominating win over the Rams,  71-45. TMU rises to an overall record of 4-4, 3-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears started off hot in the first quarter recording 15 consecutive points and holding the Rams defensively to no points. BU put up their first basket in the final minutes of the quarter as TMU continued to increase their lead, featuring a jump shot by Destinee Lovejoy and a layup by Kayleigh Kelley (19-5). In the second quarter, a layup by Lovejoy paired with two made free throws by Alexis Brewster, continued to push the Lady Bears ahead.  Two three-pointers by Ava Queen and layups by Brinkley Kate Reed and Carson Ward ultimately ended first half regulation as the Lady Bears led the Rams by 27 points, 43-16.

In the third quarter, BU fought back against the Lady Bears, battling to reduce the large margin created in the first half. A made three-pointer by Reed and layups by Brewster and Ward kept TMU ahead as both teams enter the fourth quarter with a score of 55-33. A final effort by the Rams in the fourth quarter attempted to change the game, but ultimately did not stand a chance as the strong first half performance by TMU secured the match-up, 71-45. 

LEADERS
Queen led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds, going 3-4 at the three-point arc. Lovejoy followed with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Madison Aguilera recorded 10 points and three assists. Brewster was featured recording six rebounds, while Kayleigh Kelley had seven rebounds and Jordynn Webster had three assists, respectfully. 

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday, December 4 as they host AAC foe, Reinhardt University. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
