KINGSPORT, Tenn. (November 14, 2024) – On Thursday, the No. 8 seed Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to compete against the No. 9 seed Montreat College for the first round of the 2024 WinWon Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament, where the Lady Bears proved to be a fierce competitor sweeping the Cavaliers, 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-18). TMU rises to an overall record of 9-12, 9-11 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In set one, MC was first on the board with the Lady Bears quickly responding with a kill by
Elizabeth Franklin. Both teams battled for the lead when a four-point rally by TMU, featuring two kills by
Sameily Marquez and serving aces by
Deomi Valmus. TMU continued to overpower the Cavaliers, recording an eight-point rally, including three kills and a solo block by
Jordan Roberts. Two final block assists by the Lady Bears ultimately put away set one with a final dominating score of 25-9. Set two saw TMU first up with back-to-back serving aces by
Emma Boland. TMU continued to hold their own over MC with kills by
Katie Williams, Roberts and
Faith Clarkson leading the way. A late rally by the opposing team attempted to disrupt the Lady Bears but was not enough as a final kill and serving ace by Williams sealed the deal in set two (25-17). The final set saw the Cavaliers fight back with vengeance, eager to change the tide of the set, but sharp defense by the Lady Bears paired with kills by Williams, Clarkson, Marquez, Roberts and
Caroline Yeager, held TMU firm. Final kills by
Nadia Lulinski and Williams, along with a serving ace by Boland ultimately secured the set three win, 25-18.
LEADERS
Roberts led the way with nine kills, one solo block and two block assists. Marquez followed with eight kills, while Williams tallied seven kills. Clarkson was featured recording five kills, one solo block and two block assists, while Franklin tallied four block assists and a solo block. Boland was featured recording 16 assists and five serving aces, while
Rachel Kessler had 15 digs.
