CLEVELAND, Ga. (October 5, 2024) – On Friday through Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to compete in two Appalachian Athletic Conference match ups against Bryan College and Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Lady Bears were featured sweeping BC 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 27-25) on Friday, and battling TWU to a five-set win, 3-2 (25-12, 26-24, 19-25, 21-25, 15-6) on Saturday. TMU rises to an overall record of 7-10, 5-3 AAC.

MATCH ONE
TMU 3 – BC 0

In set one, TMU was first to score with a kill by
Faith Clarkson. Both teams battled back and forth as kills by
Katie Williams,
Claudia Yates, and
Jordan Roberts kept the Lady Bears in the game. A four-set rally by the Lions attempted to overpower the Lady Bears but was ultimately short lived as a final kill by Clarkson sealed the deal in set one, 28-26. Set two saw the Lady Bears once again first on the board with a kill by Clarkson. TMU remained ahead for the rest of set two with kills by Williams, Roberts,
Elizabeth Franklin, and
Sameily Marquez ultimately securing the set two win, 25-21. The final set saw TMU once again retain the early lead with back-to-back kills by Franklin. A five-point rally by BC attempted to throw the Lady Bears off their game, but TMU was not shaken as kills by Clarkson and
Nadia Lulinski sealed the deal in set three, 27-25.

LEADERS
Clarkson led the way for the Lady Bears with 12 kills and one block assist. Roberts followed with eight kills and four block assists, while Marquez, Williams and Franklin recorded seven kills apiece.
Emma Boland was featured recording 23 assists on the evening.

MATCH TWO
TMU 3 – TWU 2

Set one began with the Bulldogs first to score. TMU quickly responded with a four-point rally taking the lead over TWU, featuring a kill by Williams. A nine-point rally by the Lady Bears, featuring three service aces by Boland and a kill by Marquez, ultimately secured the first set win 25-12. In set two, a kill by Marquez and a block assist by Marquez and Clarkson, began the match, putting the Lady Bears up first. A change in pace for the Bulldogs saw both teams battle to retain the lead when three final points by TMU, featuring a kill by Williams, ultimately determined the sets fate, 26-24. In sets three and four, TWU bounced back over the Lady Bears despite TMU securing early leads in both, forcing a fifth set to determine the match result. In the final set, the Lady Bears banded together to record a five-point rally with kills by Williams and Clarkson leading the way. Eight straight set points by the Lady Bears ultimately proved TMU as the top dog, knocking out the Bulldogs in five sets, 15-6.

Williams led the way in match two with 14 kills, four serving aces, and two block assists. Clarkson followed with nine kills, while Roberts and Marquez recorded eight kills apiece. Boland was featured tallying 25 assists and three serving aces on the evening.

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Tuesday, October 8 as the travel to face Brenau University for an AAC match-up. Match time set for 6:30 p.m.
