Lady Bears fall behind after four set battle

CLEVELAND, Ga. (October 19, 2024) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Union College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears suffered a tough loss, 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 12-25, 20-25). TMU falls to an overall record of 10-14, 7-7 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears started the match off hot with kills by Sameily Marquez, Faith Clarkson and Elizabeth Franklin. The Bulldogs fought back, eager to stop the Lady Bears momentum, but ultimately found no luck as kills by Jordan Roberts and Katie Williams finalized a set one win (25-21). In set two, a kill by Marquez put the Lady Bears up first followed by kills by Clarkson and Williams. Both teams battled, with the Bulldogs ultimately pulling ahead. Two final solo blocks by Franklin and Clarkson, attempted to change the tide of the set but was not enough as UC took set two, 25-22. 

In set three, UC found their rhythm producing two long rallies against the Lady Bears. Kills by Franklin and Roberts disrupted the Bulldogs momentum but ultimately was not enough to change the sets fate, falling 25-12. Set four saw the Lady Beats fight to recover with kills by Williams, Claudia Yates and Clarkson keeping the score even. TMU continued to give it their all, eager to force a fifth set, when two final errors by the Lady Bears ultimately gave the Bulldogs the match, falling in set four 25-20.

LEADERS
Marquez led the way for TMU with 11 kills and one solo block. Clarkson followed with nine kills while Williams had eight kills. Sullivan Knight was featured recording two serving aces while Emma Boland recorded 19 assists on the evening.

TMU will be back in action at home on Tuesday, October 22 as the Lady Bears host AAC foe, Reinhardt University inside the Harris Athletic Complex. Match time set for 6:30 p.m.O
