CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 6, 2024) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Johnson University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears battled hard throughout all four quarters, but where ultimately unable to come out with the win, with a final score of 83-78. TMU falls to an overall record of 4-11, 4-6 AAC, while JU rises to a record of 10-6, 8-2 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, TMU was first on the board with a three-pointer by
Brinkley Kate Reed. The Royals quickly responded with a three-pointer of their own as both teams battled for the early lead. The Lady Bears showed their grit increasing their score with a layup by
Alexis Brewster and back-to-back layups by
Mahalah Stewart. JU did not hold back eager to decrease the deficit when a three pointer by
Kacie Williams sent the Lady Bears into the second quarter leading by two (18-16). The second quarter saw a shift in momentum for the Royals, as JU took the lead early on. TMU did not lose heart as a layup by Brewster, paired with three-pointers from
Ava Queen and Stewart tied up the game. The remainder of the quarter saw the Royals eager to regain the lead, as JU worked to increase the margin by 14 points, leading the Lady Bears at the half, 31-45.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears were once again first to make a move with three good free throws by Brewster. The Lady Bears worked hard offensively for the remainder of the quarter, scoring four three pointers by Brewster, Reed,
Alysee Dobbs and Williams to comeback from the first half deficit, decreasing the Royals lead to six (56-64). The final quarter saw the visiting team first to the basket, forcing the Lady Bears to respond with a three pointer by Reed. A last chance jump shot by Reed and a good free throw by
Destinee Lovejoy attempted to change the outcome of the game, but was ultimately not enough to secure the win, falling to a final score of 83-78.

LEADERS
Brewster led the way for the Lady Bears with 22 points while going 5-7 in free throws. Reed followed with 17 points and four rebounds, while Dobbs tallied 13 points. Stewart was featured contributing 10 points while Williams had six points. Smith recorded 6 assists, while Lovejoy had five rebounds.
