CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 2, 2023) – On Saturday the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Columbia International University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears showed their grit, recording a stellar 21 point win, with a final score of 75-54. TMU rises to an overall record of 4-10, 4-5 AAC, while CIU falls to a record of 3-8, 2-7 AAC.

The first quarter saw the Rams first to move with a jump shot by
Alexis Brewster quick in response.
Mahalah Stewart found her position to secure a good three-pointer to give TMU an early lead. The Lady Bears continued to work together as a team, securing four three-pointers in a row, one by
Brinkley Kate Reed, two by
Alysee Dobbs and one from
Kayleigh Kelley, ultimately setting the energy for the remainder of the game, entering the second quarter leading by 13 points, 21-8. In the second quarter, Dobbs wasted no time getting to the basket, scoring a layup for TMU. The Rams had a quick shift in momentum, aiming to overcome the Lady Bears but were ultimately unsuccessful as a three pointer by Brewster, followed by a layup by Stewart, increased the margin to 17. TMU continued to command the court, proving to be a tough competitor against the Rams, leading at the half by 22 points, 42-20.

The third quarter saw a shift in momentum for the Rams as CIU attempted to recover from behind, but the Lady Bears showed no mercy as three pointers by Reed and Stewart, paired with a layup by Williams increased TMU's marginal lead to 53-36, at the end of the third. In the final quarter, TMU held nothing back as back-to-back layups by Brewster, and three pointers from Dobbs and Reed increased the gap to 24 points. A last chance effort by the CIU attempted to help the visitors recover but was ultimately not enough to take away from a Lady Bears win. Final score, 75-54.

Dobbs led the way for the Lady Bears with 17 points and eight rebounds, while going 3-5 at the three-point arch. Brewster followed closely behind with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Stewart recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. Reed was featured contributing nine points, while
Ava Queen had seven points and Kelley with five points.
