GRAYSON, Ky. (January 13, 2024) – On Saturday the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Kentucky Christian University, where the Lady Bears worked together to come out on top with the win, with a final score of 64-57. TMU rises to an overall record of 5-12, 5-7 AAC, while KCU falls to a record of 4-12, 2-9 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, the Lady bears were first to score, with a good layup by
Alexis Brewster. The Knights quickly responded with a three pointer of their own, but it did not stop the Lady Bears as layups by
Ava Queen and
Mahalah Stewart, paired with a three-pointer by Brewster, put TMU up with an early lead. TMU continued to hold their lead, scoring 3 layups, one by Stewart and two by Brewster, to increase the margin by six. A last-minute spark of energy by KCU, ultimately put the Knights ahead of the Lady Bears, forcing TMU to work from behind as they entered the second quarter trailing by four (17-21). The second quarter saw the Knights first up as KCU worked to maintain their lead. TMU banded together to change the tide of the game as two good free throws by
Alysee Dobbs paired with a layup and three-pointer by Queen put the Lady Bears up by slim margins. Eager to regain their position, the Knights found two good free throws and a three pointer to put KCU up by four, entering the half 29-33.

The third quarter saw a change in pace for TMU as a layup by Brewster followed by two good free throws by
Destinee Lovejoy tied up the game. Lovejoy, Brewster, and Queen continued to work hard for the Lady Bears as they each put a layup on the board, retaining their lead by one as they entered the fourth quarter 44-43. In the final quarter the Lady Bears proved to be a tough competitor as a three pointer and layup by
Brinkley Kate Reed continue to increase the margin. A last-minute effort by the Knights attempted to stand in the way of a Lady Bears win but was ultimately not enough as a final three pointer by Reed and good free throws by
Sydnie Smith and Lovejoy, sealed the deal on a TMU road win, 64-57.

LEADERS
Brewster led the way for the lady bears with a double-double, tallying 16 points and 11 rebounds. Queen followed closely behind with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Reed had nine points and three rebounds. Dobbs was featured contributing nine points and 15 rebounds, respectfully.
