No. 22 Lady Bears stay sharp against Columbia in AAC match-up

COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 20, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team hit the road to take on Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Columbia College, where the No. 22 Lady Bears kept their hot streak rolling with a 2-1 AAC win over the Koalas. TMU rises to an overall record of 3-2-2, 3-0 AAC, while the Koalas fall 2-2-2, 0-2-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears delayed no time in the first half, recording their first goal of the game in the ninth minute when a shot by Kayla Boggess found the back of the net (1-0). Shots by Nadiia Ivanchenko and Brianna Hernandez continued to add pressure to the home team's defense, followed by back-to-back shots by Eliska Dvorakova. Columbia was capable of taking shots of their own, but a stout TMU defensive line kept the Koalas at bay.

The second half saw Columbia gain momentum, taking shots within the first four minutes, along with tying the game 1-1 in the 61st minute. The Lady Bears were not shaken as a clutch shot by Linsey Fowler put TMU back on track to steal the lead with a score of 2-1. TMU did not hold back as they continued to see shots by Dvorakova, Ashley Johnson and Hernandez. A final earned corner kick from the Lady Bears and shot by Hernandez was all she wrote as TMU secured their third straight AAC victory with a final score of 2-1.

LEADERS
Boggess and Fowler both led the way for the Lady Bears with one goal apiece, while Dvorakova recorded six shots on the day, three on goal. Hernandez had three shots of her own, followed by Johnson who had two shots on goal and Ivanchenko who had two shots, one on goal.
