Bears secure AAC win on the road

COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 20, 2023) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against Columbia College where the Bears proved capable of securing a dominating win, 3-0. TMU rises to an overall record of 4-1-1, 2-1-1 AAC, and CC falls to a record of 4-4, 1-3 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, the Bears were first to move with two shots by Max Farris. TMU continued to work offensively, out shooting the Koalas 9-2. Last chance shots by Kenechi Walker and Lucan Yates attempted to put the Bears on the board but were unable to find the back of the net, as both teams entered the half scoreless, 0-0.
 
The second half saw the Koalas first to attack with back-to back shots, both saved by keeper Aleksa Lukic. TMU was not shaken as a penalty kick goal in the 49th minute by Will Fraser-Gray put them on the board, 1-0. The Bears pressed on taking three more shots, when a goal by Caleb Diaz, from Oscar Brennan, put them ahead by two in the 70th minute. Eager to leave the Koalas behind, Ogi Vrkic shot off a good ball from Oscar Brennan and Toby Berry, scoring the Bears final goal of the day, leaving CC behind, 3-0.
 
LEADERS
Fraser-Gray led the way with one goal and four shots. Diaz followed with one goal and two shots, while Vrkic had one goal. Farris took four shots, while Jez Walker-Paterson, Yates, Ciaran Bellis and Walker, all had one shot. Brennan took two shots while recording two assists, while Berry had one assist. Keeper Lukic had four saves on the evening.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, September 23, as they travel to face Union College for an AAC match-up. Kick off set for 1:00 p.m.
