No. 18 Lady Bears fall in hard fought battle against No. 4 Patriots

WILLIAMSBURG, KY. (August 19, 2023)—On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team traveled to compete in their season opener against the University of the Cumberlands. The No. 18 Lady Bears showed valiant effort against the No. 4 Patriots, but ultimately fell to a final score of 1-0.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Patriots were first to take action, scoring a goal in the first 20 minutes of regulation. The Lady Bears were not shaken as shots from Isabella Hodson and Nadiia Ivanchenko put pressure on the home team's defense. TMU continued to work hard from behind heading into the halftime down 0-1.

In the second half, the Lady Bears controlled the field, outshooting the Patriots 5-2. Last chance efforts by Brianna Hernandez, Hodson and Eliska Dvorakova, attempted to put the Lady Bears on top, but it proved not enough as TMU ultimately fell by slim margins (0-1).

LEADERS

Hodson led the way taking two shots on goal, while Hernandez followed with one shot on goal. Ivanchenko, Annabel Kesinger, Lindsey Fowler and Dvorakova each had one shot of their own. 

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears will host No. 15 Cumberland University for their home opener on Saturday, August 26, inside the TMU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
