CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 11, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University baseball team completed the series sweep over Point University after a pair of wins in Saturday's Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader. Game one saw a lot of action from the Bears bats, resulting in a 13-9 victory for the Bears. TMU followed up with a much closer one-run win in game two after the Skyhawks (7-6). TMU improves to 17-6, 7-4 AAC with the sweep, while Point University drops to 11-9-1, 5-4 AAC.Â

TMU blew up the scoreboard with six runs in the first inning. A bases-loaded walk by Mikal Mascarello brought home Ethan Roberts to make it 1-0. With another bases-loaded situation, the Bears racked up a couple more runs from four RBI singles from Matthew Redmond, Caleb Ramsey, Caleb Williams and Jacob Karvelas to make it 6-0. The Skyhawks would respond with a pair of four-run innings in the third and the fourth. The Bears racked up another three runs of their own in the fourth capped by an RBI double from Andrew Johnston to help regain the lead of 10-8. TMU added on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, contributing to the final 13-9 score.Â
LEADERS
Ethan Roberts went 1-5 and led the team with three RBIs. Mascarello added two RBIs of his own after going 2-5 with a walk. Pitcher James John got the win after pitching three innings, allowing only one run off two hits and recording a single strikeout.Â

The Skyhawks got out to an early 2-0 lead in the second, but Redmond helped get the Bears on the board in the bottom half after walking, stealing both second and third and eventually being brought home on a sacrifice groundout. Point and TMU would trade places in the third, recording a run each. The Skyhawks would then get out to a four-run lead in the top of the fifth, but the Bears went on to score five runs of their own between the fifth and sixth inning. Highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Tanner Griffith and Redmond in the fifth inning, Ethan Roberts doubled in the tying run in the sixth and also scored the go-ahead thanks to a fielding error. The Bears would put the game away in the seventh to win by a final score of 7-6.Â
LEADERSÂ
Griffith and Redmond recorded crucial homer uns, while Roberts added a double along with going 2-4 with two runs. Pitcher Jonathan Joiner collected the win after striking out four batters and surrendering only three runs through four innings of work.Â

TMU will be back on the diamond at the Truett McConnell Baseball Complex on Wednesday, March 15 when Reinhardt University pays a visit for an AAC matchup. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
