CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 9, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Kentucky Christian University inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, where the Lady Bears were unable to respond the Knight's early lead (42-63). TMU falls to a record of 7-18, 6-16 AAC, while the Knights rise to 14-11, 11-10 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears were first on the board with a jump shot from Alysee Dobbs when the Knights responded with multiple shots to steal the lead and create a large gap. Shots from Dobbs and free throws from Quan Holton chipped at the deficit but left TMU trailing at the end of the first quarter (9-30). In the second quarter, the Knights continued to add shots, but a layup from Sydnie Smith, Dobbs and Holton cut at the large margin. A shot in the paint from Dobbs lessened the score to 41-20 going into the half.Â
In the third quarter, the Lady Bears gained momentum with layups from Smith and Dobbs, paired with a shot behind the three-point arc from Dobbs and a layup from Camilla Callihan. Free throws from Jordyn Wilder sent TMU into the final quarter with an opportunity to gain ground on the Knight's lead (32-54). In the fourth quarter, a layup and jump shot combo from Wilder paired with a Holton free throw worked at the deficit, but layups from Callihan and Dobbs ultimately, proved the final hope for the Lady Bears as they fell 42-63.Â
LEADERS
Most notable, Smith was featured setting a new program record as the All-time assist leader with a total of 208.Â
Dobbs led the way with 16 points, going 7-20 in the paint with eight rebounds. Holton followed with 10 points, going 4-6 at the free-throw line with three rebounds. Wilder recorded six points, going 2-3 in the paint and 2-4 at the free-throw line. Callihan tallied five points, going 1-6 at the free-throw line with nine rebounds.Â
