Lady Bears steal AAC win from Montreat

CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 7, 2023) - The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Montreat College inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, where the Lady Bears strong performance secured a 52-46 victory over the Cavaliers. TMU rises to a record of 7-17, 6-15 AAC, while the Cavaliers fall to 15-8, 13-8 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Lady Bears were first to score with a shot behind the three-point arc from Alysee Dobbs. Layups from Dobbs and Lila Luettich added to TMU's lead, while a shot in the paint from Jordyn Wilder closed the first quarter (13-3). In the second quarter, the Cavaliers worked quick to cut the deficit, but a layup from Camilla Callihan and three-point shot from Chloe Williams kept the Cavaliers at bay. A shot behind the three-point arc from Asia Gant paired with a layup from Dobbs sent TMU into the half with a large lead (26-13).

In the third quarter, TMU saw a jump shot from Dobbs and Callihan and a shot behind the three-point arc from Gant to contribute to the Lady Bears' lead. The Cavaliers were persistent with multiple shots to cut the deficit to two going into the final quarter (33-31). In the final quarter, the Lady Bears sparked their momentum with a three-point shot from Kacie Williams paired with a layup from Quan Holton. Multiple consecutive shots from Dobbs propelled TMU forward, where free throws from Chloe Williams and Callihan secured a 52-46.

LEADERS
Dobbs led the way with 17 points, going 4-5 at the free-throw line with nine rebounds. Callihan followed with 10 points, going 4-8 at the free-throw line with five rebounds. Gant recorded nine points, going 3-8 at the three-point arc, while Williams tallied four points, going 1-4 in the paint.

The Lady Bears remain in the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Thursday, February 9 for an AAC match-up against Kentucky Christian University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
