TMU drops home opener against Webber

CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 11, 2023) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team hosted Webber International University, where the Lady Bears put up a fight but ultimately suffered a tough loss of 20-4.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first quarter the knights started off hot putting up three goals, but Shelby Nail fought back with a good shot on goal to make the score 3-1. Eager to increase the scoring deficit, the Eagles ended the quarter by adding four more goals to secure a steady lead (7-1). In the second quarter, the Bears were first to attack offensively with a goal by Kaitlyn Morgenroth, while the Eagles responded with five more goals to enter the half 12-2.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears worked hard defensively holding the Eagles to three goals and scoring two more goals of their own by Nail and Madison Franklin (15-4). In the final quarter, the Bears were seen giving their all as they continued to fight, but ultimately fell short to a final score of 20-4.

LEADERS

Nail led the way with two goals, taking five shots with three on goal and three ground balls. Morgenroth followed with one goal, two shots, one on goal and two ground balls. Franklin had one goal, one shot on goal, and one ground ball. Marlo McBrayer took two shots with one on goal and three ground balls. Katie Smith took two shots and had three ground balls of her own.

The Lady Bears are back in action at home on Saturday, February 18, as they host Erskine College inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Game time set for 1:00 PM.
