Lady Bears sweep Columbia on the road

COLUMBIA, S.C. (October 7, 2023) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to compete against Columbia College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears took home a dominating win against the Koalas 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-19). TMU rises to an overall record of 16-8, 9-3 AAC, while CC falls to a record of 2-14, 0-11 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first set saw a four-point rally by the Lady Bears to begin the match, featuring a kill by Katie Williamson. TMU continued to increase their lead with a 10-point rally, with kills by Rylee Simpson, Williams, and Ranavia Neal, paired with an assisted block by Neal and Simpson. The Lady Bears continued to command the game, until a final kill by Katie Williamson left the Koalas behind, 25-10. In the second set, TMU was first on the board with a kill by Jordan Roberts. An early six-point rally by CC, attempted to leave the Lady Bears behind, but TMU was not shaken as kills by Sonya Silecky and Williamson kept them in the game. Eager to decrease the scoring gap, a 10-point rally by the Lady Bears, featuring back-to-back kills by Roberts and Williams, with two service aces by Simpson, sent TMU ahead of CC, to secure the win in set two, 25-18.
 
In the final set, TMU was once again first to move with a service ace by Simpson. The Lady Bears continued to hold the lead until a four-point rally by the Koalas, threatened their position, but TMU did not lose hope as a final kill by Silecky gave the Lady Bears what was needed to win set three, 25-19.
 
LEADERS
Williams led the way for the Lady Bears with seven kills. Roberts followed with six kills and a block assists, while Williamson tallied six kills and two block assists. Neal had six kills, while Silecky recorded five kills. Simpson had 28 assists on the day.

The Lady Bears will be back in action at home on Tuesday, October 10, as they take on AAC opponent, Montreat College. Match time set for 6:30 p.m., inside the Harris Athletic Complex.
