BLUEFIELD, Va. (October 7, 2023) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up versus Bluefield University, where the Bears proved to be a tough competitor, defeating the Rams 3-0. TMU rises to an overall record of 5-2-2, 3-2-2 AAC, while BU falls to a record of 1-9-1, 1-7-1 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first half, TMU was hot out the gates with a shot by
Oscar Brennan. A corner kick from
Jez Walker-Paterson attempted to put the Bears into an early scoring position but was unable to find the net with a shot by
Lucan Yates. TMU continued taking three more shots in the first half, but all were unsuccessful as both teams headed into halftime, 0-0.
The second half saw the Bears quick to attack with a goal by
Christian Bowen, assisted by
Maury Ibarra, in the 62
nd minute (1-0). TMU continued to stay sharp as another goal by Bowen, assisted by Ibarra and
Aleksa Lukic, put the Bears up by two (2-0). The Bears continued to attack offensively as a goal by
Oscar Brennan, assisted by
Jose Ventura, in the final seconds of regulation, left the Rams behind 3-0, securing the win over BU.
LEADERS
Bowen led the way for the Bears with two goals, followed by Brennan with one goal and five shots, all on goal. Ibarra had two assists on the evening while Ventura recorded one assist. Yates,
Will Fraser-Gray and
Kenechi Walker all tallied a shot a piece, while keep Lukic recorded six saves and one assist,
