No. 21 Women's Soccer shows no mercy against Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (October 11, 2023) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against Johnson University, where the No. 21 Lady Bears wasted no time offensively, outshooting the Royals 37-4, to secure the win 10-0. TMU rises to an overall record of 9-2-3, 9-0-1 AAC, while JU falls to a record of 4-5-2, 3-5-1 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears were first to attack with a goal in the first nine minutes of regulation by Kristin Beasley (1-0). TMU continued to work hard offensively when a penalty kick goal by Nadiia Ivanchenko put the Lady Bears up by two (2-0). Eager to increase the score, a goal by Eliska Dvorakova from Ivanchenko found its way into the net, creating a marginal lead for TMU. A corner kick by Dvorakova saw the Lady Bears once again in position as Lyndsey Darden scored the fourth goal of the evening. A final goal in the 42nd minute by Ivanchenko, assisted by Dvorakova, proved the Lady Bears to be tough competitors as they headed into the half, 5-0.
 
In the second half, Nela Sechterova found a good ball from Marisol Esparzaa to score a goal in the 45thminute (6-0). Dvorakova followed in the 50th minute scoring another goal, assisted by Esparza, to lead the Royals by seven (7-0). TMU continued to increase their lead with back-to-back goals by Isabella Hodson and Julia Bosch, assisted by Hodson (9-0). TMU scored their final goal of the day in the 80th minute, by Julia Bosch, to secure a 10-0 win over Johnson.
 
LEADERS
Dvorakova led the way for the Lady Bears with two goals, two assists and nine shots, followed by Ivanchenko with two goals, one assist and four shots. Bosch recorded two goals and four shots on goal, while Hodson had one goal and one assists. Beasley, Darden and Sechterova each recorded one goal apiece, while Esparza recorded two assists.

The Lady Bears will be back in action at home on Saturday, October 14, as they take on AAC opponent, Columbia International University. Match time set for 2:00 p.m. inside the Harris Athletic Complex.
