Women’s volleyball falls in three against Knights

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 24, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Appalachian Athletic competitor St. Andrews University, where the Lady Bears fell in three sets (21-25, 22-25, 23-25). TMU falls to a record of 8-10, 3-3 AAC, while the Knights improve to 2-12, 2-5 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In set one, the Knights were first to score, but the Lady Bears retaliated with a kill from Katie Williams and Jordan Roberts. Another kill from Roberts and a kill from Ranavia Neal tied the score. Both teams were neck-and-neck until consecutive kills from Williams gave TMU the lead. A late four-point rally from the Knights sent them ahead, where a service ace from Deomi Valmus was not enough (21-25). In the second set, the Lady Bears started strong with a service ace from Brooklynn Brock. A four-point rally from TMU created a deficit until a five-point rally from the Knights stole the lead. Kills from Roberts, Brock, and Neal cut the deficit, where a kill from Katie Williamson regained TMU's lead. A late eight-point rally from the Knights left the Lady Bears in the dust (22-25).

In the final set, the Knights struck first to gather an early lead. Kills from Sonya Silecky and Neal worked to cut the margin, where a five-point rally and a kill from Leah Bowen regained the Lady Bears lead. The Knights were resilient with a six-point lead to rally ahead. A late attempt with consecutive kills from Williams was not enough, leaving the Lady Bears to fall 23-25.

Williams led the way with 11 kills, followed by Bowen and Neal with eight of their own. Valmus recorded 16 digs on the day, while Williams, Bowen, and Silecky recorded eight apiece. Brock collected 26 digs, followed by Emma Boland with 11.
