TMU finishes 1-1 in home tri-match

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 17, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Tennessee Wesleyan University (25-17, 25-11, 27-25) and Florida College (24-26, 23-25, 21-25) inside the Harris Athletic Complex. TMU improved their record to 8-8, 3-1 AAC.

MATCH 1 | Tennessee Wesleyan University

In set one, the Bulldogs were first to strike, but a four-point rally with kills from Leah Bowen and Sonya Silecky gave TMU the lead. Kills from Ranavia Neal and Katie Williams created a large margin, followed by a service ace from Brooklynn Brock. The Bulldogs were unable to rally, leaving a kill from Williams to secure a 25-17 win. In the second set, the Bulldogs were first to strike again, but a five-point rally regained the Lady Bears lead. In a seven-point rally, TMU had kills from Neal and SIlecky. The Bulldogs fell behind quickly, where a kill from Silecky secured a 25-11 victory.

In the final set, the Lady Bears were first to attack with a kill from Williams. The Bulldogs were seeking vengeance with a two consecutive three-point rallies. Kills from Bowen and Williams kept TMU within margins, but a four-point rally from the Bulldogs left TMU behind. A late five-point rally consisted of kills from Neal and Williams, propelled the Lady Bears to a 27-25 sweep over the Bulldogs.

LEADERS

Williams led the way with 14 kills, followed by Silecky with nine. Deomi Valmus recorded 14 digs, followed by Williams with eight. Brock tallied 27 assists, followed by Valmus and Boland with three apiece.

MATCH 2 | Florida College

In set one, the Lady Bears struck first with a service ace from Valmus. TMU collected an early lead with kills from Williams, Jordan Roberts, and Katie Williamson. The Falcons worked hard, but kills from Neal and Williams created a deficit. A late three-point rally from the Falcons even the matched, where a four-point rally left TMU behind 24-26. In the second set, the Falcons were up early, but kills from Neal, Bowen, and Silecky along with back-to-back service aces from Valmus put TMU ahead. Both teams were neck-and-neck for the duration of the set until the Falcons had two kills to surpass the Bears (23-25).

In the final set, the Lady Bears recorded a kill from Williams and Neal to take an early lead. The Falcons had to work from behind, but kills from Neal, Roberts, and Williams kept TMU ahead. A late eight-point rally from the Falcons determined the Lady Bears fate, leaving them to fall behind 21-25.

LEADERS

Roberts and Williams led the way with nine kills apiece, followed by Bowen with seven. Valmus tallied 20 digs, followed by Silecky with 16 and Brock with 11 of her own. Brock also recorded 28 assists on the evening.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears remain in the Harris Athletic Complex on Tuesday, September 20 for an AAC match-up against Columbia International University. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
