CLEVELAND, Ga. (August 18, 2022)- The No. 19 Truett McConnell University women's soccer team hosted the No. 10 University of the Cumberlands for their 2022 home season opener, inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The Lady Bears suffered their first loss of the season in a hard-fought battle against the Patriots with a final score of 4-3.

PLAY BY PLAY
Despite the Patriots being hot out of the gate with two shots on goal, the Lady Bears were first to score with a shot from Eliska Dvorakova, assisted by Lindsey Fowler (1-0). The Patriots did not settle and quickly evened the play, making the score 1-1. The Patriots managed to score a second goal before the half ended, leaving the score 1-2.

In the second half, the Patriots scored a goal within the first five minutes, pulling ahead 1-3. The Lady Bears did not give in as a ball from Sydney League in the 63rd minute found the back of the net (2-3). The Patriots were quick to break away once again, making the score 2-4. TMU closed the gap in the final minutes with a goal from Kayla Boggess, but ultimately fell short 3-4 after a final hope shot from Ruffer Meger proved not enough.

LEADERS
Dvorakova led with four shots, one on goal and one goal. Lauren Bergevine followed with three shots, with one on goal, while League and Boggess both had two shots, one on goal and one goal apiece.

The Lady Bears are back inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Saturday, August 27, where they will face Georgia Gwinnett College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
