CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 9, 2022) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University softball team faced Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Tennessee Wesleyan University, inside the TMU Softball Complex. The Lady Bears secured a the split, falling 0-1 in the first game and secured the run-rule win in game two (9-1). TMU improves to a record of 19-20, 12-6 AAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 28-5, 20-4 AAC.
GAME 1 | 1-0
In game one, both teams were evenly matched and the game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. The Bulldogs scored their lone run of the game, leaving TMU to fall 1-0.
LEADERS
Pitcher Kyleigh Sanders threw a complete game, recording six strikeouts and allowing only one run out of four hits.
GAME 2 | 9-1
In game two, TMU busted out the bats with a Lexi Simonton double, followed by an Alicia Price and Briley Lawson single to score Simonton (1-0). Rachel Morgan provided a single to left to score two and end the inning (3-0). The bottom of the second saw the most runs from the Lady Bears. Justine Kennington singled and stole a base to get in scoring position, where Simonton and Lawson were on base from misplayed balls (4-0). A Kyndall Gipson walk and Mattie Brooks single, followed by another misplayed ball raised the score to 6-0. Camryn Halliday singled to left to score the final run of the inning (7-0). The Bulldogs saw their only run of the game in the top of the fourth (7-1). TMU finished the game by retaliating with a B. Lawson homerun, followed by a Brooks double and sacrifice hit from Morgan to implement the run-rule (9-1).
LEADERS
B. Lawson and Brooks led the way offensively, both going 2-3 at the plate. B. Lawson tallied three RBIs and three runs, while Brooks tallied one RBI. Simonton was 1-3 at the plate with two runs, while Price was 1-2 with one run. Morgan was 1-3 at the plate and tallied four RBIs.
Pitcher Karley Hobbs threw a complete game, tallying three strikeouts and only allowing one run out of four hits.
