Lacrosse loses after fourth quarter battle against Knights

CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 7, 2022) – On Thursday, the Truett McConnell University lacrosse team competed in their final home match of the season against St. Andrews University, where the Lady Bears fell in a hard-fought heartbreaker, with a final score of 18-15. TMU sits at a record of 2-7, 2-4 Appalachian Athletic Conference, while the Knights improved to a record of 7-6, 6-2 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

St. Andrews took an early lead with three consecutive goals, while Hope Frady fought back with a goal of her own in the ninth minute (1-3). Two more rom the Knights increased the gap, while the Lady bears worked hard to keep the play even with one goal from Sophie Beach and two goals from Frady to end the half (4-5).

TMU gained momentum at the start of the third quarter, tying the game with a Kaitlyn Morgenroth goal, assisted by Frady (5-5). St. Andrews added goals of their own, but once again the Lady Bears evened the score after Beach found the back of the net (8-8). Both teams continued to show their grit, leaving the game to be determined until the very end. Two final goals from Frady, assisted by Hope Foster ultimately proved not enough as the Lady Bears fell to a final score of 15-18.

LEADERS

Frady led the way with eight goals, three assists, and 15 shots, 13 on goal. Beach followed with three goals and six shots on goal, while Emily Sanders had two goals, Morgenroth had one goal and Katie Smith had one goal. Foster tallied four assists and two shots on goal, followed by goalie Madison Franklin who had 18 saves on the day.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears travel to face SCAD-Savannah on Saturday, April 9 for their final regular season game of the season. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
