CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 1, 2022) - On Friday, the Truett McConnell University softball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Columbia International University, where the Lady Bears picked up a 1-0 and 4-0 sweep. TMU improves to a record of 15-16, 8-2 AAC, while the Rams fall to 15-21-1, 6-9 AAC.
GAME 1 | 1-0
In game one, both teams were evenly matched until the Lady Bears scored their only run of the game in the fourth inning. A Lexi Simonton walk, followed by a Briley Lawson single put runners in scoring position. Kyndall Gipson singled to center field to score Simonton (1-0), while a fielder's choice ended the inning. A late threat from the Rams in the seventh proved not enough, giving the Lady Bears their first win of the day.
LEADERS
Gipson led the way going 1-3 at the plate while tallying one RBI. Rachel Morgan and B. Lawson individually went 1-3 at the plate, followed by Simonton and Alicia Price who went 1-2 at the plate.
Pitcher Kyleigh Sanders threw a complete game, with 11 strikeouts and one hit in seven innings. Sanders recorded her sixth win of the season.
GAME 2 | 4-0
In game two, the Lady Bears struck early in the second inning with a Morgan single, followed by a Justine Kennington single and Mikayla Sullens single to load the bases. A crucial walk from Ellie Abner scored Morgan, followed by a misplayed ball to score Kennington (2-0). The Lady Bears defense kept the Rams from causing damage. In the sixth inning, Anna Thomas singled to short, followed by a Price single. Simonton singled to score Thomas and a B. Lawson single scored Price (4-0). The Lady Bears shut the Rams offense down in the seventh to secure the sweep.
LEADERS
Price and B. Lawson led the way offensively, going 2-4 at the plate and both tallying one RBI apiece. Simonton was 1-4 at the plate, followed by Mattie Brooks who was 1-2. Morgan, Kennington and Sullens were all 1-3 at the plate as well.
Pitcher Karley Hobbs threw a complete game, with four strikeouts in seven innings. Hobbs recorded her eighth win of the season.

The Lady Bears remain inside the TMU Softball Complex on Saturday, April 2, to face AAC foe, Bluefield College. The double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
