WICHITA, Kan. (March 5, 2022) - On Friday, the Truett McConnell University wrestling team traveled to compete in the NAIA National Championships, where Leonel Silvestre (149) and Ethan Powell (285) represented the Bears on the mat. 

Most notable, Powell showed out in match one, featuring a first period pin to move on to the next round. After suffering a tough loss in match two, Powell bounced back to secure a big overtime win, continuing to advance. Match four proved to be his last as the junor finished the tournament going 2-2. Silvestre followed with two tough losses, after battling through each match. 

"First of all we want to thank God for the opportunities He gave us this season. Our purpose is found in glorifying Him through wins and losses, and we want to give Him glory for this season," said Head Coach Patrick James. "We didn't reach all of the goals we set for ourselves this season, but we are excited to return next season with strong upperclassman and a tough freshman class. We will continue to strive for excellence in all we do to acquire a higher level within the sport while giving all the glory to God."
