Softball wins big on senior day

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 5, 2022) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University softball team hosted their first conference match-up inside the TMU Softball Complex against Appalachian Athletic Conference member, Johnson University. The Lady Bears earned the sweep in dominating fashion, 10-0 and 3-1. TMU improved to a record of 9-12, 2-0 AAC, while the Royals fell to 2-6, 0-6 AAC.
 
GAME 1 | 10-0
 
In game one, the Lady Bears and Royal were scoreless for the first three innings, until TMU busted out their bats in the bottom of the fourth. An Isabella Sullivan single, followed by an Ashleigh Lawson walk and an Alicia Price single loaded up the bases. A Kyndall Gipson single to right field moved the runners around and made the score 2-0. A hit by pitch for Rachel Morgan, followed by a Lexi Simonton walk and Briley Lawson single raised the score to 6-0. Mikayla Sullens singled to center field to secure a run rule win and a 10-0 victory for the Lady Bears.
 
LEADERS
 
Price led the way offensively, going 2-3 at the plate and tallied two runs. Justine Kennington went 1-3 and had one run. B. Lawson tallied two RBI's and went 1-3 at the plate, along with Sullens going 1-3 with one run and one RBI.
 
Pitcher Kyleigh Sanders threw 7.0 innings and tallied nine strikeouts, zero runs and zero walks for her third win of the season.
 
GAME 2 | 3-1
 
In game two, the Royals were early to jump on the board with a run in the top of the first inning (0-1). The Bears struggled to adjust until the third inning when Anna Thomas started with a walk, followed by a Simonton walk to put runners on and in scoring position. Brooks singled to center field to score Thomas, followed by a Gipson single to score Simonton (2-1). R. Morgan singled to score Brooks, securing TMU's three runs of the game (3-1). Pitcher Karley Hobbs held off the Royals offense to secure the Lady Bears second win of the day (3-1).
 
LEADERS
 
Brooks led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Kennington went 2-3 at the plate, while Thomas went 1-2 and tallied one run. Gipson was 1-4 at the plate with one RBI, while Morgan was 1-3 at the plate with one RBI.
 
Hobbs threw a complete game, earning eight strikeouts and only giving up three hits over seven innings to earn her fifth win of the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears remain inside the TMU Softball Complex for another AAC match-up against St. Andrews University on Thursday, March 10. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
