WEST POINT, Ga. (March 14, 2022) – The Truett McConnell University softball team hit the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference double feature against Point University, where the Lady Bears dropped game one (2-4) but secured the split in game two with a final score of 6-5. TMU is now sitting at a record of 10-13, 3-1 AAC, while the Skyhawks sit at a record of 16-10, 8-2 AAC.
GAME 1 | 2-4
The Lady Bears hit the board first in the top of the third inning after an
Ashleigh Lawson single through the right side scored
Alicia Price (1-0). The top of the fourth saw TMU set the pace as
Briley Lawson cleared the fence with a single run homerun to put TMU up by two (2-0). Pitcher
Kyleigh Sanders kept Point scoreless until the fifth inning (2-1), followed by three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Bears were unable to respond in the top of the seventh, resulting in a loss in game one (2-4). Â
LEADERS
Justine Kennington led the way going 2-3 at the plate, while Price went 1-2 at the plate with one run. B. Lawson went 1-4 with one run and one RBI, followed by A. Lawson who went 1-4 with one RBI. Sanders recorded eight strikeouts on the day through 5.2 innings, while
Ellie McCloy recorded a single strikeout.
GAME 2 | 6-5
The Lady Bears changed their pace in the top of the first when a
Kyndall Gipson double scored
Justine Kennington to put TMU up by one (1-0).
Lexi Simonton followed up in the top of the fourth with an RBI off a misplayed ball by Point (2-0), while an
Anna Thomas single up the middle scored Simonton from second (3-0). TMU scored once more in the top of the fifth, but the Skyhawks did not back down as they decreased the lead with runs of their own (4-2). A Kennington double to left center and B. Lawson single to right field gave TMU the needed advantage to secure game two (6-5).
LEADERS
Kennington and Gipson individually went 2-4 at the plate with two runs and one RBI, while
Rachel Morgan went 2-3 with one RBI.
Mikayla Sullens went 2-4, followed by
Mattie Brooks, B. Lawson, Simonton and Thomas who had one hit apiece. Hobbs earned the win in game two after pitching 6.0 innings and recording four strikeouts, while McCloy earned the save, along with recording a single strikeout.
