Softball splits with Middle Georgia in mid-week matchup

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 2, 2022) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University softball team went face to face with Middle Georgia College inside the TMU Softball Complex, where the Lady Bears collected a loss in game one and a win in game two (0-1, 2-0).

Most notable, pitcher Karley Hobbs wanted a no hitter from the mound in game two, after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing a single walk.

Game 1 | 1-0

Both teams proved evenly matched, while pitcher Kyleigh Sanders kept the visiting teams offense at bay. Five consecutive innings resulted in little actions offensively, until the top of the sixth when the Knights hit the board first with a single home run. The Lady Bears worked hard to retaliate, but were ultimately unable to respond leaving the score 0-1.

LEADERS

Mikayla Sullens went 2-2 at the plate, followed by Briley Lawson and Alicia Price who went 1-3 at the plate. Isabelle Sullivan had a single hit, while Sanders recorded 14 strikeouts, respectfully.

Game 2 | 2-0 Hobbs No Hitter

The Knights led the top of the first with a lead off walk and continued to be aggressive on base. The bottom of the second inning saw TMU gain momentum to take the lead with a Kyndall Gipson RBI single to score Sullivan (1-0). Hobbs stayed resilient on the mound, eliminating any chance for the Middle Georgia offense to strike back. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Bears added to their score with a lead off double from Lexi Simonton, who continued to score from a Sullivan RBI single to right field (2-0). The TMU defense held the Knights scoreless for the remainder of the game, resulting in a final score of 2-0.

LEADERS

Sullivan led the way going 2-2 at the plate with one RBI, followed by Gipson who went 2-3 with one RBI. Justine Kennington went 2-3 at the plate, while Simonton went 1-4 with one run. Hobbs led from the mound after pitching 7.0 innings and recording 10 strikeouts while allowing a single walk, zero hits and zero runs.
