Lacrosse loses by one in battle with Montreat

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 12, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University lacrosse team hosted Montreat College Saturday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup. The Lady Bears played with heart, but ultimately suffered a tough loss with a final score of 19-18.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The first quarter saw Montreat make the first move offensively with a single good goal (1-0). However the Bears quickly fought back with three good goals by Hope FradyCameron Lee, and Kaitlyn Morgenroth (1-3). Montreat fought back, increasing the score 5-3, but good goals by Frady and Sophie Beach helped the Bears tie the game going into the second quarter (5-5). In the second quarter, Montreat, eager to create a scoring deficit, scored three goals (8-5). Good goals by Beach and Morgenroth kept the Lady Bears in the game, tying it going into the half (8-8).

The third quarter saw a lot of action from both sides. Many goals by Montreat increased their lead, but good goals by Holly Foster and Frady kept the Lady Bears not far behind. Frady, Lee, and Foster found the net six times in the fourth quarter but a final goal by Montreat sealed the fate of the game with a final score of 19-18. 

LEADERS

Frady led the way with seven goals, 11 shots, seven on goal, and four ground balls. Foster followed with four goals eight shots, six on goal, and three ground balls. Beach had three goals of her own taking four shots with three on goal. Lee and Morgenrothhad two goals a-piece with each taking five shots. Lee had two ground balls while Morgenroth had one. Goalie Madison Franklin had 10 saves on the day.

The Lady Bears host Tennessee Wesleyan University, March 16, in an AAC match-up set for 5:00 PM.
