GAINESVILLE, Ga. (February 8, 2022) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent and Northeast Georgia local, Brenau University, where they defeated the Golden Tigers with a final score of 66-58. The Lady Bears are now sitting at a five game win streak and rose to a record of 16-10, 12-8 AAC, while the Golden Tigers fell to 5-14, 4-12 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
In the first quarter, the Golden Tigers were first to strike, but TMU was not fazed. A layup from
Sydnie Smith and a three point shot from
Re'Tavia Floyd gave the Lady Bears the advantage, followed with a three pointer from
Alysee Dobbs and a layup from
Camilla Callihan to increase the lead. Brenau stayed resilient, but a layup from
Quan Holton continued to see TMU on top going into the second quarter, 18-16. In the second quarter, the Lady Bears opened with a Callihan layup, followed by two free throws. A
Sydney Rumble layup and Floyd three point shot increased the deficit to five points. The Lady Bears continued to rally with a three pointer from Dobbs and a layup from
Sydnie Smith going into the half (34-27).
In the third quarter, Brenau was quick to score, while the Lady Bears worked together to increase the deficit once again. A shot from behind the three point arc from Rumble and a layup from Floyd created a five point gap, while a free throw and layup from Floyd saw the Lady Bears with the lead at the end of the third quarter (43-37). In the final quarter, TMU rallied early with a layup from Smith and Callihan to increase the deficit to ten points. The Golden Tigers had a small rally to close the gap, but the game was ultimately put out of reach with another layup from Smith and a three pointer from Floyd. Six consecutive free throws for TMU led to a final score of 66-58, to take down Brenau.
LEADERS
Floyd led the way offensively with 15 points on the evening, going 3-5 from behind the three point line, and tallied four rebounds. Smith followed with 13 points, going 3-4 at the free throw line, and contributed six rebounds. Dobbs had a total of 13 points, going 5-8 from within the paint, and added four rebounds. Callihan recorded 12 points, going 4-6 from within the paint, while Holton led the way defensively with seven rebounds and had three points, going 1-1 at the free throw line.
