Lady Bears fall behind, suffer loss at Point

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 10, 2022) - On Thursday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Point University. The Lady Bears showed grit, but ultimately fell 67-74. TMU declined to 16-11, 12-9 AAC, while the Skyhawks rose to 19-5, 15-5 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY

In the first quarter, the Skyhawks were first to strike. TMU retaliated with a three point shot from Re'Tavia Floyd. As the Skyhawks created a deficit, Jessica Jackson reduced the lead with two free throws. Camilla Callihan, Quan Holton and Sydney Rumble each had a layup to help cut the advantage to 13-18. In the second quarter, a free throw from Alysee Dobbs started a rally for TMU, followed by a three point shot from Callihan and a three point shot from Jackson. The Lady Bears gained enough momentum to regain the lead with a layup from Floyd, followed by two free throws from Floyd, leaving TMU down by slim margins going into the half (37-39).

In the third quarter, the Skyhawks were first to strike again, but a free throw from Floyd got things started for TMU, followed by a layup from Holton and Sydnie Smith. The Skyhawks broke away and left the Lady Bears behind with a six point deficit. TMU retaliated and struck with a layup from Dobbs, followed by a free throw. A layup from Floyd and Holton gave the Lady Bears the lead going into the final quarter, 56-55. In the fourth quarter, TMU struck with a layup from Callihan, followed by a free throw. Holton made three consecutive layups to increase the advantage to five points. The Skyhawks as they had their own rally to take back the lead, while a late game free throw from Holton proved not enough, leaving TMU to fall 67-74.

LEADERS

Floyd and Holton led the way offensively on the evening, both tallying 18 points a piece. Floyd was 9-10 at the free throw line while Holton was 7-12 from within the paint. Callihan followed with 14 points, going 6-10 in the paint. Jackson contributed seven points, going 1-2 from behind the three point arc.Dobbs led the way defensively by tallying seven rebounds and also adding six points, going 2-2 at the free throw line.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena to host AAC foe, Reinhardt University, on Monday, Feb. 14. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
