COLUMBUS, Ga. (Feb. 27, 2022) – The Truett McConnell University softball team competed in the final day of the NFCA Classic on Sunday, where they suffered a 4-2 loss against No. 16 William Carey University. The Lady Bears are now sitting at an overall record of 6-11, with conference play beginning this upcoming weekend.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
A lead-off walk from Justine Kennington started things for the Lady Bears in the top of the first inning, followed by sacrifice bunt from Lexi Simonton to put Kennington in scoring position. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Kennington reached home plat eon a sacrifice fly from Briley Lawson to put TMU up 1-0. The Lady Bears added to the score in the top of third after a Rachel Morgan triple to right field scored Lawson from first (2-0). The bottom of the third saw a resilient William Carey offense as they tallied four runs to pull ahead 2-4. TMU worked hard in the box, while pitcher Ellie McCloy shut down the Crusader offense for the remainder of the game. The Lady Bears were unable to retaliate with runs of their own, ultimately falling to a final score of 4-2.
LEADERS
Lawson led the way going 1-2 at the plate, along with tallying one hit and one run. Morgan followed with a hit of her own, featuring a triple and one RBI. Mattie Brooks, Mikayla Sullens and Alicia Price recorded a hit apiece, while McCloy had three strikeouts, one hit, zero runs and zero walks.

The Lady Bears return inside the TMU Softball Complex on Wednesday, March 2, where they will face Middle Georgia State at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m, followed by their first AAC matchup of the season and senior day against Johnson University on Saturday, March 5, at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
