LAKELAND, Fla. (February 17, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University softball team hit the road for a weekend Florida road trip, with their first stop on Thursday at Southeastern University. The Lady Bears struggled in game one, suffering an 8-0 loss, while gaining momentum in game two, ultimately losing by slim margins (2-0). TMU is now sitting at a record of 2-6 on the season, while the fire improved to a record of 5-3.Â
GAME 1 | 8-0
Both teams proved even in play until the bottom of the fourth when Southeastern gained a a three run advantage (0-3). The Lady Bears were aggressive in the box, but unable to find a gap in the field. The Fire added a single run in the bottom of the fifth, while TMU was not giving in as they rallied with two outs in the top of the sixth, featuring an
Isabelle Sullivan triple down the right field line.
Ashleigh Lawson followed with a battle in the box, ultimately resulting in a hard hit ball back to the pitcher for the third out of the inning. Southeastern put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth after scoring four runs, leaving the score 8-0 to end the game.Â
LEADERS
Justine Kennington and
Lexi Simonton individually went 1-3 at the plate, while
Mikayla Sullens went 1-2 at the plate and Sullivan recorded one hit of her own. Pitcher
Kyleigh Sanders recorded two strikeouts on the day, while
Kyndall Gipson recorded a single strikeout.Â
GAME 2 | 2-0
The Lady Bears bounced back in game two, capable of keeping the score close by staying resilient on defense. The Fire hit the board first in the bottom of the first, but pitcher
Karley Hobbs stayed strong at the mound to keep the Southeastern offense silent for the remainder of the game. Each inning proved challenging for the TMU offense, once again struggling to produce hits. The Fire scored once more in the bottom of the fourth, with the Lady bears unable to respond and resulting in a score of 2-0.Â
LEADERS
Rachel Morgan led the way going 2-3 at the plate , followed by
Mattie Brooks who went 1-3 at the plate. Hobbs recorded two strikeouts on the day, while allowing two hits and two walks.Â

The Lady Bears continue on their trip Friday, Feb. 18, where they will face Webber International University with double header game times set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
