LAKE WALES, Fla. (February 18, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University softball team hit the road for a weekend Florida road trip, with their second stop on Friday at Webber International University. The Lady Bears suffered a late loss in the first game, 2-3, while fighting back for a blowout win, 8-0, against the Warriors. TMU is now sitting at a record of 3-7, while the Warriors are at a record of 5-7.
GAME 1 | 2-3
The Lady Bears were hot out of the gates in the first inning with Rachel Morgan reaching second after earning a walk. Briley Lawson homered to score two runs, but TMU failed to respond the remainder of the game (2-0). The Warriors responded with a homerun of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the score (2-2). TMU continued to have hits, but left runners on base. In the bottom of the third, the Warriors scored their final run of the game to ultimately leave the Lady Bears behind (2-3).
LEADERS
Lexie Simonton and Justine Kennington led the way at the plate going 2-3 on the day. Anna Thomas and Alicia Price also tallied a hit a piece, while Lawson tallied two RBIs and one run.
GAME 2 | 8-0
The Lady Bears had a quick turn around in the second game. The first two innings remained scoreless with both teams leaving runners on base. In the third inning, Price reached first with a hit by pitch. Ashleigh Lawson laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Price into scoring position. A Morgan single scored Price (1-0), followed by a Lawson double to move runners into scoring position again. A Simonton triple to left center scored both runners, increasing the score to 3-0. In the sixth inning, TMU scored again off a Lawson single to left field, scoring Price who reached on a fielder's choice (4-0). The Lady Bears busted open in the seventh inning, starting out with a Mattie Brooks hit by pitch, while a Simonton single, followed by a Sabrina Pestana-Aguiar single loaded the bases. With bases loaded, a Mikayla Sullens single to left field scored two runs (6-0). Anna Thomas scored Sullens and Kennington off a groundout to second to end the evening on an 8-0 score.
LEADERS
Lawson led the way going 3-4 at the plate, with one RBI. Simonton went 3-4 as well, with two RBIs. Sullens went 2-3 with one RBI. Lawson, Brooks and Price all went 1-3 at the plate, while Price tallied one RBI.
Pitcher Karley Hobbs earn d her second win of the season, while giving up only two hits, zero runs and recording six strikeouts.
