CLEVELAND,Ga. (February 14, 2022) - On Monday, the Truett McConnell University softball team secured their first sweep of the season at home over Talladega College, where the Lady Bears dominated in game one with a score of 6-3. TMU battled in game two to come out on top with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh, recorded a final score of 2-1. TMU is now sitting at a season record 2-4.

Talladega took an early lead in the top of the first innings, but TMU was quick to respond in the bottom with a
Briley Lawson three -run home run, scoring
Anna Thomas and
Lexi Simonton. An RBI walk from
Alicia Price left the Lady Bears up 4-1 going into the top of the second inning. The Tornadoes retaliated in the top of the third to reduce the lead to one, but game was ultimately put out of reach in the bottom of the sixth, sparked by an
Isabelle Sullivan double to deep center field. A misplayed ball hit by Thomas moved pinch runner,
Morgan Chancey, to third, while a Simonton sacrifice fly scored Chancey from third (5-3). A Lawson RBI single saw the final Lady Bear run of the game, followed by TMU shutting down the visiting team in the top of the seventh, resulting with a score of 6-3.
LEADERS
Lawson led the way going 2-2, along with four RBIs, two walks and one run. Simonton went 1-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI, while Thomas went 1-4 with two runs.
Rachel Morgan,
Kyndall Gipson and Sullivan recorded a hit apiece, followed by
Justine Kennington and Chancey recorded a single run. Pitcher
Kyleigh Sanders earned her first win of the season, while recording nine strikeouts.

Karley Hobbs held the Talladega offense at bay for majority of the game, until the top of fourth saw the Tornadoes hit the board first (0-1). TMU battled back to even the score in the bottom of the fifth with a single from Simonton, who continued to score off a Lawson double to deep center. Both teams were evenly matched until the bottom of the seventh when Price reached first from a perfectly placed bunt and Thomas continued to move her over with a misplayed ball by the visiting team. A final Simonton single to left gave the Lady bears the opportunity they needed to seal the win with a score of 2-1.
LEADERS
Simonton led going 2-3, along with one run and one RBI, while Kennington went 2-3, featuring a triple to deep right-center field. Lawson went 1-2 at the plate with one RBI and one walk, followed by Thomas who went 2-4 at the plate. Morgan, Sullivan and Price individually had a hit of their own. Hobbs recorded her first win of the season, featuring six strikeouts, one run and one walk.
