ATHENS, Tenn. (October 8, 2022)- The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan, where the Lady Bears fell behind but bounced back with game-determining goals late in the second half. TMU rises to a record of 8-2-1, 7-0-0 AAC, whereas the Bulldogs fall to 7-4-0, 6-2-0 AAC.
PLAY BY PLAY
In the first period, the Bulldogs were quick on their feet scoring their first goal in the ninth minute of play (0-1). The Lady Bears got two corner kicks off, but the Bulldogs scored goal number two in the 15th minute (0-2). TMU worked from behind with a header shot on goal from Lauren Bergevine and a corner kick from Nadiia Ivanchenko. In the 33rd minute, Ruffa Meger scored TMU's first goal of the day (1-2). The Lady Bears capitalized on a penalty kick, where Ivanchenko scored goal number two to tie the game going into the half (2-2).
In the second period, TMU was hot on offense by outshooting the Bulldogs 14-4. A shot on goal from Ella Weir, Jette Schulz, and Ashley Johnson sparked the momentum. In the 69th minute, the Bulldogs scored their final goal of the day to recapture the lead (2-3). The Lady Bears banded together in the final minutes for goal number three from Brianna Hernandez, assisted by Ivanchenko in the 80th minute (3-3). In a matter of seconds, Sydney League scored the final goal to secure a 4-3 victory over the Bulldogs.
LEADERS
Ivanchenko led the way with four shots, two on goal, and one goal. Hernandez followed with three shots, two on goal, one goal. Meger and League each had two shots, two on goal, and one goal apiece.
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears return to the TMU Soccer Complex on Wednesday, October 12 to host AAC competitor Columbia College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
