Men’s soccer shows grit with 1-1 draw against Eagles

WALESKA, Ga. (October 19, 2022)- The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Reinhardt University, where the Bears displayed top-notch defense to record a draw (1-1). TMU rises to a record of 7-5-3, 4-5-2 AAC, while the Eagles rise to 7-4-3, 6-1-3 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first period, the Eagles were first to strike with a corner kick. The Bears retaliated with a corner kick of their own in the 20th minute from Oscar Brennan. A shot from Nour Alamri missed just wide but gathered some momentum for the Bears. In the 37th minute, Justin Hicks, assisted by Max Farris, scored TMU's lone goal of the evening (1-1). With an early advantage, the Eagles worked hard but could not muster anything before the half.

In the second period, the Bears were aggressive with a blocked shot from Will Fraser-Gray and Brennan, followed by a shot on goal from Alamri. The Eagles were persistent but were coming up short, until their lone goal in the 75th minute (1-1). The Eagles continued to attack the goal but could not produce anything. In the final seconds, TMU was aggressive with a shot on goal from Alamri was the last hope, leaving the Bears to tie the Eagles 1-1.


LEADERS
Most notable, keeper Daniel Santema recorded six saves on the day. Hicks led the way with one shot, one on goal, and one goal, while Farris recorded an assist on the day. Alamri tallied three shots, with two on goal.

UP NEXT

The Bears return to the TMU Soccer Complex on Saturday, October 22 for an AAC show-down with Bluefield University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
