Lady Bears secure win after five set battle

GRAYSON, Ky. (September 30, 2022) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor Kentucky Christian University, where the Lady Bears battled to a victory over the Knights (25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10). TMU improves to a record of 10-10, 5-3 AAC, while the Knights fall to 5-14, 1-7 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first set, the Lady Bears started with a kill from Katie Williamson, followed by a service ace from Deomi Valmus. An early eight-point rally included kills from Ranavia Neal, Leah Bowen, Brooklynn Brock, and Jordan Roberts. The Knights attempted to work their way back, but a kill from Roberts secured a 25-17 victory. In set two, TMU was first to strike again with a service ace from Emma Boland. The Knights got an early jump ahead of the Lady Bears, but a six-point rally gave TMU the lead. Both teams were neck-and-neck until a five-point rally with two service aces from Boland created a margin. A kill from Roberts sealed set two with a 25-20 victory.

In the third set, the Lady Bears had an early rally will kills from Roberts and Williams, followed by a service ace from Valmus. The Knights took an advantage, where a kill from Williams and service ace from Sonya Silecky even the scored. Both teams continued to battle until the Knights jumped ahead, leaving the Lady Bears to fall 22-25. In set four, the Knights jumped ahead early and created a large margin. Kills from Boland, Bowen, and Neal cut the margin, but the Knights continued to attack. A late three-point rally was not enough, leaving TMU behind 22-25. In the final set, the Knights were first to strike, but a five-point rally with kills from Williams and Bowen gave TMU the advantage. The Knights worked hard with a four-point rally of their own, but another five-point rally and service ace from Kaleigh McFarland secured a 15-10 victory over the Knights.

LEADERS

Roberts led the way with 16 kills on the evening, followed by Bowen with 14 and Williamson and Neal with 10 apiece. Valmus recorded 18 digs, followed by Rachel Kessler with 17. Brock tallied 31 assists, while Boland followed with 27.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears remain on the road and head to Bluefield, Virgina on Saturday, October 1 for an AAC match-up against Bluefield College. Match time is set for 11:00 a.m.
