Lady Bears rally together to secure AAC victory over Brenau

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Dec. 18, 2021) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team went head to head with Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Brenau University,  inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Lady Bears secured a dominating win of 63-51 to improve their record to 11-8, 7-6 AAC, while the Golden Tigers fell 3-7, 4-8 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY

In the first quarter, both teams were evenly matched, but the Lady Bears were first to score with a three point shot from Re'Tavia Floyd. A layup and a shot from behind the three point arc from Sydney Rumble put TMU ahead by two points. Jessica Jackson contributed a layup to increase the deficit to four points, followed by layups from Alysee Dobbs and Camilla Callihan to put the Lady Bears ahead by six. To end the quarter, Sydnie Smith secured a free throw to bring the score to 16-14. The second quarter brought an increase in speed from the Lady Bears. A layup from Quan Holton and five points from Floyd dramatically increased TMU's lead to ten points. Natalie Nixon drained a three pointer along with another from Floyd, while a jumper from Floyd brought the score to 39-18 going into the half with the Lady Bears on top.

In the third quarter, Floyd drained another three point shot, followed by layups from Holton and Callihan. The Golden Tigers did some damage, but TMU remained resilient up 49-30 at the end of the quarter. In the final quarter, the Golden Tigers tried to rally together to get some points, but still came up short. A jumper from Floyd, a layup from Callihan and a jumper from Dobbs kept the deficit to 16 points. The Golden Tigers rallied for a short period, but two free throws from Callihan secured a Lady Bears victory (63-51).

LEADERS

Floyd led the way offensively with 22 points, going 4-6 from behind the three point arc, and going 6-9 at the free throw line. Callihan followed with 12 points of her own, going 5-12 from within the paint. Nixon contributed six points, going 2-4 from behind the three point arc. Holton also had six points, going 2-4 at the free throw line, and tallying five rebounds. Dobbs led defensively with seven rebounds on the evening, while contributing four points.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears will hit the road on Thursday, Jan 20, for an AAC matchup against Bryan College, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
