CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 28, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team recorded their first sweep of the season Tuesday, against Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor, Columbia College, inside the TMU Volleyball/Wrestling Arena, a final match score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-11). The Lady Bears extended their win streak to three and improved to a record of 7-11, 4-3 AAC, while the Koalas fell to a record of 1-10, 0-8 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lady Bears were lights out on offense all night. TMU secured the lead from the start of set one after a five-point run that was ignited by a Jordan Roberts kill (5-0). The Koalas tried to lessen the gap; however, Bethany Ross, Ranavia Neal and Sonya Silecky contributed multiple kills of their own to secure the Lady Bears a 25-17 victory. Deomi Valmus set the pace at the start of set two with a service ace, followed by kills from Roberts and Ross to set TMU up for a 4-0 lead. Again, the Koalas tried to persevere as they worked from behind, but were unsuccessful. A double feature of Taylor Roland aces captured the win in set two, with a final score of 25-14.
The Lady Bears did not let up in set three, featuring a Rachel Kessler ace and back-to-back kills from Neal and Silecky (5-1). Four aggressive kills from Ross and two aces from Kessler continued TMU's increase in lead, ultimatley resulting in a final set score of 25-11 that was sealed by an Elizabeth Franklin kill.
LEADERS
Silecky led the way with eleven kills and 10 digs, while Ross had nine kills and Neal had eight kills. Roberts, Franklin and Hudson individually recorded four kills, while Valmus had 18 assists with eight digs and Cox had 15 assists with 10 digs. Roland had an impressive eleven digs on the night, followed by Kessler who had eight digs of her own.
