LAURINBURG, N.C. (September 25, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled Saturday to St. Andrews University, where they went 2-0 on the weekend after facing host, St. Andrews University (18-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18) and Carolina University (28-26, 25-18, 11-25, 25-16). The Knights fall to a record of 4-13, 4-2 AAC, the Bruins fall to an overall record of 4-5 and the Lady Bears rise to a record of 6-11, 3-3 AAC.
MATCH 1 | St. Andrews University
The Lady Bears played an exhilarating four sets with the Knights. In the first set, the TMU scored first, but the Knights rallied with three points of their own. The set was back-and-forth until the Knights pulled away and claimed an 18-25 victory. The Lady Bears didn't settle and came together. Deomi Valmus fired the offense with eight aces. The TMU sealed the 25-15 win with three aces from Madyson Dunn.
In the third set, the Lady Bears gained speed with another two aces from Valmus. The Knights were persistent and continued to add points of their own. However, kills from Sonya Silecky and Ranavia Neal sealed a 25-21 victory. In the fourth and final set, the Knights scored first. The Lady Bears rallied together for a four-point run with aces from Taylor Roland and Rachel Kessler. The Lady Bears sealed the victory with a 25-18 win from a Virginia Hudson kill.
LEADERS
Valmus had an impressive twelve aces on the night, along with twelve assists. Meanwhile, Hudson led the way with seven kills, while Neal had six kills. Morgan Cox led in digs with eleven while Kessler had seven. Cox also tallied eleven assists of her own.
MATCH 2 | Carolina University
The Lady Bears struck quick in set one against the Bruins. TMU started with a kill by Bethany Ross, continuing to progress through the set with aces from Roland, Valmus, Dunn, Kessler and Cox to secure a hard fought 28-26 win. In the second set, the Lady Bears had a few rallies to keep their winning streak alive. Kills from Silecky and Jordan Roberts helped the Lady Bears win 25-18. In the third set, the Bruins struck first and left their mark. The Lady Bears struggled to rally together and lost 25-11. In the fourth set, the Lady Bears had kills from Roberts and Silecky that gave them the lead early on. That lead was beneficial after a five-point rally to secure the Lady Bears second win of the day, 25-16.
LEADERS
Most notable, Ross recorded her 1000th career kill, after totaling eight kills against the Bruins. Kessler, Valmus and Dunn all tallied four aces on the evening. Again, Valmus had seventeen assists on the night, while Cox had fifteen. Neal had an impressive twelve kills. Kessler and Valmus both had eight digs apiece and Silecky had six of her own.

The Lady Bears will return home to the TMU Volleyball/Wrestling Arena Tuesday, Sept. 28, to face AAC opponent, Columbia College (SC), with a match time of 6:30 p.m..
