Lady Bears battle but fall in three at CIU

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 21, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team traveled Tuesday to compete at Columbia International University for their fifth Appalachian Athletic Conference match of the season. The Lady Bears fell as CIU extended their AAC win streak to five with a final match score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19). The Rams increased to a record of 13-5, 5-0 AAC, while TMU fell to a record of 4-11, 2-3 AAC.

Th Rams broke away at the start (0-3), until back-to-back kills from Ranavia Neal left the score one away from being even (12-13). A six-point run gave CIU the advantage they needed to take set one with a score of 17-25. An early lead in set two saw the Rams run away with a second set win with a score of 16-25, while set three saw the Lady Bears gain speed. TMU stole the lead after a Bethany Ross kill, but the Rams gained momentum of their own to collect the third set (19-25) to win the match 3-0.

Sonya Silecky led with seven kills, while Neal totaled six kills. Virginia Hudson had five kills, Ross had four kills, Jordan Roberts had a single kill and Taylor Roland had one kill and five digs. Rachel Kessler recorded eight digs, followed by Deomi Valmus who had 11 assists and eight digs and Morgan Cox had six assists and four digs.

Up next, the Lady Bears will head to St. Andrews University Saturday, for a matchup set for 11:00 am.
