CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 15, 2021) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team dominated on the field to steal their second straight Appalachian Athletic Conference win against Point University (6-1) Wednesday inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. TMU increased to an overall record of 5-1, 2-0 AAC, while the Skyhawks fell to a record of 1-4, 1-1 AAC.
According to the latest NAIA National Top 25 Poll, the Lady Bears are now sitting at No. 24 in rankings.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first half saw TMU dominate on offense, capable of taking 15 shots and earning three corner kicks, forcing the Skyhawks defense to work. It wasn't until the 33rd minute that a ball from Amayia Lukie found the foot of Eliska Dvorakova, who fought her way to the box to put the Lady Bears on the board with her first goal of the season (1-0). The half concluded with a score of 1-0, but within the first three minutes of period two, TMU increased their lead as Hannah Logue took advantage of a deflected blocked shot in the box from Dvorakova, to score the second goal of the game (2-0).
The Lady Bears continued to add to their lead, with the third goal of the game shot by Sydney League, off an Ashley Johnson assist (3-0). Point retaliated in the 70th minute with a goal of their own in efforts to reduce the gap (3-1). TMU did not back down as they increased the lead to four off back-to-back Lukie goals, featuring a penalty kick shot from a foul in the box (5-1). The game was ultimately put out of reach with a final goal off a shot from Lindsey Fowler, with a Lukie assist.
LEADERS
The Lady Bears recorded 34 shots, 19 on target, opposed to the Skyhawks four total shots. Additionally, TMU earned eight corner kicks, while Point earned four.
Lukie led the Lady Bears with two goals, three shots on goal and two assists. Dvorakova followed up with one goal and six shots, two on goal, while Logue recorded one goal and four shots, three on goal. League and Fowler individually recorded one goal and three shots, followed by Johnson who had a single assist and Ashleigh Smitherman who had five shots, three on goal.
