Lady Bears secure big AAC win over Point

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 14, 2021) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team secured their first Appalachian Athletic Conference victory inside the TMU Volleyball/Wrestling Arena, where TMU bested Point University in four sets with a final match score of 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15). The Lady Bears increased to a record of 3-9, 1-1 AAC, while the Skyhawks declined to a record of 4-6, 1-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Lady Bears came out hot as they stole the lead from the start with a Ranavia Neal kill, followed by two Skyhawk attacking errors (5-2). TMU managed to get up by nine, which began with a Sonya Silecky kill and back-to-back kills by Katie Williamson (11-5), followed by individual kills by Jordan Roberts and Virginia Hudson and a Madison Dunn clutch ace (16-7). It was only up from there as TMU maintained the lead for the remainder, clinching set one with a score of 25-15.

Set two saw the Skyhawks with the upper hand, as they ran away with the lead after a seven point-run, featuring TMU attacking errors (13-17). The Lady Bears managed to decrease the lead to three, losing set two by slim margins with a score of 23-25. TMU gained momentum in set three, battling the Skyhawks every point. It wasn't until a trio of kills from Neal, Elizabth Franklin and Silecky, triggered a four-point run that gave the Lady Bears a dominating lead (17-12). The final five points came from three TMU kills and a match winning service ace by Dunn, to total a score of 25-15. The Lady Bears stayed resilient in set four, leading by at most 10 points, ultimately securing the match with a final set score of 25-15.

LEADERS

Franklin dominated with 12 kills, while Neal wasn't far behind with 11 kills and three blocks of her own. Silecky tallied 10 kills and 24 outstanding digs, followed by Roberts who had eight kills and three blocks. Hudson and Ross individually had seven kills, Williamson had four kills, Rachel Kessler had 10 digs and Taylor Roland had nine digs. Morgan Cox recorded a total of 27 assists and eight digs, while Deomi Valmus recorded 24 assists and seven digs.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears hit the road Friday, Sept. 17, to face AAC competitor Bryan College, with a match time set for 6:30 p.m.
