CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 11, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team competed Saturday, inside the TMU Volleyball/Wrestling Arena, where they faced Life University and Keiser University. The Lady Bears stole set one from Life, who received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, but the Eagles collected the last three to secure the match win (21-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-18). The Seahawks came out hot against TMU, resulting in the second loss of the day for the Lady Bears (25-19, 25-16, 25-13).
MATCH 1
TMU stole the lead from the beginning of the first set, featuring Ranavia Neal and Virginia Hudson kills (4-2). Life was capable of bridging the gap (12-12), but a service ace by Rachel Kessler and a Jordan Roberts kill put the Lady Bears back on top (16-12). Three consecutive kills by Bethany Ross and Neal secured the first set with a score of 25-21.
Set two saw the Lady Bears with a four point run, including a Deomi Valmus service ace and Ross kill (4-0). The Eagles took a strong six-point run to steal the lead, which was held for the remainder of the set, resulting in a loss for TMU (20-25). Set three and four proved to be Life's game, as they collected both wins in dominating fashion with scores of 11-25 and 18-25.
LEADERS
Sonya Silecky led with nine kills and 14 digs, while Neal had seven kills and Ross had six kills. Roberts had five kills, Hudson had four kills and Katie Williamson had three kills. Kessler recorded 20 digs, followed by Valmus who had 18 assists and 12 digs and Morgan Cox who had eight assists.
MATCH 2
Keiser started set one with a six-point run , but TMU immediately followed with a five-point run of there own to put the score one away from being even (6-7). A Hudson kill, along with a Ross kill kept the score close, ultimately bridging the gap after a Keiser service error (11-11). Keiser put the set out of reach after a five point run . TMU was never able to recover, resulting in a final score of 19-25. The Seahawks dominated in set two for a second win, continuing to put pressure on the Lady Bears (16–25), and followed up with a win in set number three to steal the match with a score of 13-25.
LEADERS
Neal recorded seven kills, while Ross had four kills of her own. Individually, Hudson and Roberts had three kills, followed by Silecky who had three kills and 10 digs. Kessler had 12 digs, while Valmus recorded 11 assists and Cox recorded nine assists.
