CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 11, 2021) – The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team competed against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Montreat College for their AAC opener Saturday afternoon, where a scoreless first half showed TMU's determination as the game was ultimately sent into double overtime. Both teams were resilient, but a final shot from the Cavaliers proved to be the winning goal, as the Bears fell to a final score of 2-1.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first half was neck and neck, as both teams retaliated every opposing shot with their own. TMU was capable of taking three consecutive shots with five minutes remaining in the first half, but the score ultimately remained 0-0. It wasn't until the 70th minute in the second half that Montreat hit the board first to take the lead (0-1). The Bears, now forced to work from behind, gained enough momentum to send the game into overtime after a crucial goal by Caleb Rolon bridged the gap in the 80th minute (1-1).
TMU outshot the Cavaliers in the first overtime period, continuing to stay resilient on offense and defense. Due to an unchanging score, the game was sent into a second overtime period, which ultimately saw Montreat prevail as they recorded their second and final goal of the game, resulting in a final score of 1-2.
