Men's soccer comes up short against Point

CLEVELAND, Ga. (September 15, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team competed against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Point University, Wednessday night inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex, where an early strike from the Skyhawks left the Bears fighting. Both teams worked until the final minute, but ultimately TMU fell short 2-1. The Skyhawks rose to a record of 1-1-1, 1-1 AAC, while the Bears fell to a record of 1-2-2, 0-2 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Bears came out of the gate with Oscar Brennan taking a shot on goal within the first three minutes of regulation. The Skyhawks quickly turned around with two shots of their own. Riley Powers came up with two saves, but the Skyhawks proved fatal in the 19th minute as they hit the board first (0-1). The Bears worked to produce shots of their own with four shots on goal. However, the Skyhawks worked hard and produced another goal in the 44th minute of the first half (0-2).
 
In the second half, the Bears were quick to action with two shots on goal. In the 50th minute, Jose Ventura came up with the only goal for the Bears of the evening off a ball sent in the box by Caleb Rolon (1-2). TMU continued to scrape for the tying goal, with three corner kicks, three shots on goal and two header shots. Ultimately, the Bears fell short due to the Skyhawks resilient defense, resulting in a final score of 1-2. 
 
LEADERS
Ventura sparked the game with a single goal, while Callum Smith and Caleb Rolon recorded three shots of their own. Hebert Lima had two shots, two on goal, followed by Brennan and Justin Hicks who had a shot on goal apiece. Individually, Chandler Bond and Powers recorded four saves on the night.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will travel to face AAC competitor Johnson University Wednesday, Sept. 22,  with a kickoff time to be announced.
