Lady Bears come up one goal shy of Point

CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 2, 2021) – On Friday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team competed in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup with Point University, inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The final minutes of regulation saw the Skyhawks steal the lead, resulting in an 11-10 loss for the Lady Bears. Point secured their first win of the season and are now sitting at a record of 1-5, 1-5 AAC, while TMU declined to a record of 3-3, 3-3 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Within the first 30 seconds of period one, the Skyhawks hit the board first (0-1), but the Lady Bears evened the play from a Holly Foster goal with an assist from Cameron Lee (1-1). Hope Foster went on to earn back-to-back goals (3-1), followed by Holly Foster and Lee who tallied goals of their own (5-1), to give TMU a dominating four-point run. Point responded with a four-point run of their own (5-5), making the score even to end the half.

The Skyhawks carried the speed into the second half, with another goal within the first 30 seconds to steal the lead (5-6).  Two consecutive goals from Hope Foster bridged the gap, while also allowing TMU to take back the lead, followed by a Sophie Beach goal to further their advantage (8-6). Point was capable of scoring two more goals, but the resilient Lady Bears responded with two more of their own (10-8). In the final five minutes of the game, the Skyhawks gained momentum as they earned three more unanswered goals to put them up by one (10-11), ultimately clinching the win over TMU with a final score of 10-11.

LEADERS
Hope Foster led the way with six goals, along with 11 shots, nine on goal and two ground balls. Holly Foster followed up with two goals, 11 shots, three on goal, three ground balls and a single assist. Lee had one goal, one assist, and two shots, while Beach had one goal with five shots. Goalie Madison Franklin tallied eight saves on the night, along with four ground balls.

The Lady Bears are back inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex Saturday, April 3, where they will face AAC foe No. 1 SCAD Savannah, with a start time at 10:00 a.m.
